Orginally, we made a report that the plane went down in Sao Paulo killing 62 people on board. Actually, it was 61. That is because this man missed the connecting flight because he didn’t hear the boarding call and didn’t reach the gate on time. The attendant at the gate barred his entrance to the boarding area because the stipulated time had passed.

The man was angry at the attendant and tried to fight his way through. However, after hearing that the plane crashed, he went back and hugged the attendant with tears in his eyes, thanking him for being professional and for “doing his job.”

Moral of the story: sometimes when you think you’re late, you’re not!

A plane carrying 57 passengers and four crew members crashed in the Capela neighborhood of Vinhedo (Sao Paulo), Brazil in the early afternoon of Friday, 9th of August, 2024.

According to Voepass Linhas Aéreas, formerly Passaredo, the airline that owns the aircraft, it was a turboprop passenger plane, model ATR-72, that left Cascavel (PR) bound for Guarulhos (SP).

The Brazilian Air Force reported that the investigator from the Fourth Regional Service for Investigation and Prevention of Aeronautical Accidents (SERIPA IV), a regional agency of Cenipa, located in São Paulo, is already on his way to carry out the “Initial Incident Report.”

The Military Police informed EPTV that they received the call at 1:28 p.m. on João Edueta Street, near the Miguel Melhado de Campos Highway (SP-324), and sent teams to the scene. According to the City of Vinhedo, the plane crashed in the Recanto Florido residential complex.

Hospitals in Vinhedo and Valinhos (SP), a neighboring city, were mobilized to receive possible injuries. The Fire Department, Civil Defense and Military Police responded to the incident at the scene.
