During the early morning hours of Sunday, 27th of August, 2023, at around 1:30 AM, a heartrending tragedy struck the country of Guyana. Inquiries disclosed that the driver of the car, 17-year-old Daveanand Singh, was speeding east along the northern side of Resource Public Road at Canal No. 2, West Bank Demerara when he apparently lost control and crashed into the back of a motor lorry which was parked on the northern parapet. The sheer speed of the car caused it to bounce off and crash into a concrete fence at the side of the road.

When paramedics arrived at the scene, two of the occupants were already dead. The other two were taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital in an unconscious state. They unfortunately died while receiving treatment.

The victims are as follows:

Daveanand Singh, 17 years old of Lot 1566 Providence, EBD (Driver)

Ameisha Jaikarran, 19 years old of La Grange Old Road, WBD

Divyanie Narine, 18 years old of Kitty, Georgetown

Daniel Tirbeni, 19 years old of La Grange, WBD

Information reaching this publication are that Divyanie Narine and Daniel Tirbeni were in a romantic relationship while Ameisha Jaikarran and Deveanand Singh were also romantic partners at the time of their deaths.

Team Guyana, South America extends heartfelt condolences to the relatives and friends of the four teenagers killed in this tragic accident.

We further urge all Guyanese to slow down, use the roadways with caution, be defensive drivers, and most of all, don’t drive when consuming alcoholic beverages.
