An earthquake of an estimated magnitude 6.0 on the Richter scale today (23rd of June, 2024) rocked the waters off the Venezuelan Coast in the Caribbean Sea. The effects of the earthquake were felt all across neighboring Guyana and also Trinidad and Tobago. Most of Guyana reported light tremors so far. The earthquake occurred just after midnight of the 22nd of June, 2024, Guyana time.

Although all sources agree on the coordinates of where the earthquake occurred, there are conflicting reports from the various reliable earthquake monitors about the depth and magnitude of the earthquake. For example, one earthquake monitor reported that the earthquake was a magnitude 6.3 while one reported 5.3. The extent of damages caused by the earthquake is not known to this publication as yet.

Although the earthquake struck inside the Caribbean Sea off the coasts of Venezuela, experts say a tsunami is not expected to follow.
