This publication has been made aware of yet another disturbing allegation against GDF ranks stationed at the GDF Camp Kanuku Base in Lethem, Region 9, Guyana, South America. The worrying incident reportedly took place on Friday night, 9th of June, 2023.
According to the family of the alleged victim, 28-year old Christopher McDonald, a gold miner, was brutally beaten by GDF ranks on Friday night (9th of June, 2023) causing his jaw to break in two places, rendering him unable to eat or speak for at least 24 hours.
According to information received, the young man had just returned from the Marudi Gold Mining Mountains to take care of an issue with his son when the distressing incident occurred. McDonald said he was walking on the road on Friday night (9th of June, 2023), on his way back from a nightclub, when he was accosted by three ranks of the GDF from the Camp Kanuku Base in Lethem.
One of the ranks accused McDonald of dancing with his girlfriend and started to get violent. McDonald said he attempted to defend himself, however, he was outnumbered and overpowered. He said that during the fight, he fell to the ground after he was dealt several blows from the side and he felt his jaw become numb.
McDonald was taken to the Lethem Public Hospital where was treated and referred to Georgetown for further medical procedures. He is presently at home awaiting the flight to Georgetown which is expected to happen tomorrow, 12th of June, 2023.
The family said the three soldiers have not yet been identified. However, they are desperate for justice.
This is not the first time GDF ranks in Lethem have been accused of brutalizing a citizen of Lethem. As such, the residents of Lethem are asking “what purpose exactly” the GDF ranks are serving in Lethem. They are calling for swift justice in this case.
Team Guyana, South America joins the cry of the residents of Lethem in calling for a thorough investigation into this incident and justice for the victim and his family.
