Last updated: April 13, 2024 at 19:41 pmPrime Minister of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Dr. Ralph Gonsalves, in a letter addressed to the Presidents of both Guyana and Venezuela on the 4th of January, 2024, expressed regret for having been photographed standing with other government officials in front of an illegal depiction of the map of Venezuela (shown in cover photo).
Gonsalves explained that he was asked to pose for a photo and was not aware that the object he was standing in front of was in fact the fabricated, illegal map of Venezuela showing the Essequibo as part of Venezuela as the Maduro Regime has expressed intention of illegally annexing.
Gonsalves said that he was at the time (December 2022) at an event celebrating the life of Venezuelan patriot and revolutionist, Simon Bolivar, who led the fight for Venezuela’s independence from Spain.
Further, Gonsalves said it is unfortunate that this old photo has resurfaced, and hopes that it gets buried with “the ghosts of the past:” never to return to haunt him.

Nevertheless, the photo keeps circulating on social media and other places with various dark speculations and comments suggesting that the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Prime Minister might be in bed with the Maduro Regime where the Essequibo is concerned. Gonsalves has repeated rebuffed these accusations.
