Prime Minister of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Dr. Ralph Gonsalves, in a letter addressed to the Presidents of both Guyana and Venezuela today, 4th of January, 2024, expressed regret for having been photographed standing with other government officials in front of an illegal depiction of the map of Venezuela (shown in cover photo).

Gonsalves explained that he was asked to pose for a photo and was not aware that the object he was standing in front of was in fact the butchered, illegal map of Venezuela showing the Essequibo as part of Venezuela as the Maduro Regime has expressed intention to illegal annex.

Gonsalves said that he was at the time (December 2022) at an event celebrating the life of Venezuelan patriot and revolutionist, Simon Bolivar, who led the fight for Venezuela’s independence from Spain.

Further, Gonsalves said it is unfortunate that this old photo has resurfaced, and hopes that it is buried with “the ghosts of the past:” never to return to haunt him.
