On the evening of February 6th, 2025, a popular Guyanese News Outlet, Guyana Daily News, made a controversial Facebook post claiming that Team Mohamed’s will be sharing out cash grants to the first 1000 persons on February 7th, 2025. Persons were encouraged to show up at the Mohameds’ Lombard Street Office as early as 7:00 am to be processed, and to walk with proof of address and national identification. Read story here. The post caused mayhem as nearly a hundred persons were seen before daybreak waiting in front of Mohamed’s Lombard Street Office Building in Georgetown, Region 4, hoping to get their cash grant on a first come, first serve basis. They were sorely disappointed.

Team Mohamed’s this morning posted a notice debunking the Guyana Daily News article as FAKE, and advised Guyanese to rely only on announcements made on the Team Mohamed’s Facebook page for such information. The Mohameds’ further encouraged their followers to boycott the Guyana Daily News publication: unfollow, block, and delete.

This controversial Facebook post by a somewhat reputable Guyanese News Outlet has caused much confusion amongst the Guyanese population. Why would they do this? After the Mohameds’ made their disclaimer on the matter, the Guyana Daily News held their ground, publishing a statement this morning alleging that the Mohameds “paid” for the “advertisement” through a proxy. They uploaded a signed check to the tune of $500,000 GYD which they claim was paid for the misleading “advertisement,” and further said that the Mohameds are attacking and trying to sabotage their publication.

Guyana Daily News targeted by Team Mohamed in an attempt to discredit the agency

On the 6th February 2025, an individual claiming to be Mark Richmond, Head of Security for Azruddin Mohamed, paid and placed an advertisement on the GDN platform; it was therefore surprising to see Team Mohamed’s disclaimers on the 7th February.

We at GDN believe this is a plot to discredit our news agency which continues to be fearless in our pursuit of the truth and justice.

Despite this failed attempt by Team Mohamed’s to gain attention at the expense of GDN’s credibility, GDN has taken a management decision to continue to accept advertisements from anyone presenting Government of Guyana issued identification.

Mr. Azruddin Mohamed has our best wishes in his political endeavors and his legal troubles with the authorities in the United States of America who have sanctioned him for gold smuggling, tax evasion, money laundering and other crimes against various states.

The Guyana Daily News also posted the following photos allegedly showing a photo of the receipt for payment and the person who made the payment.
