Guyanese born Carlos Peterson-Grifith is well known across Guyana for his incredible physical strength. In fact, he has been listed as the strongest man in not only Guyana, but the entire South American continent. Throughout his body-building career, Carlos has made and broken many records, but this time, his extraordinary feat has put Guyana on the map in the world of sport. He is the first Guyanese ever to set a world record in sport!

The following excerpt was copied from the Facebook Page of Guyana’s Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.

Carlos Petterson-Griffith has set a new world record in the squat (Classic) in the 93kg weight category, lifting 337.5 kg today at the International Powerlifting Federation (IPF) World Men’s Open Classic Championship in Druskininkai, Lithuania.

Nicknamed the “Showstopper,” the Guyanese powerhouse surpassed the previous 337 kg record set by the USA’s Adin Gavin in February at the Sheffield Powerlifting Championship.

Carlos is the first Guyanese to become a world record holder in sport.

Join us in congratulating Carlos!
