Last updated: May 1, 2025 at 1:40 amSubsequent to the tragic death of Adrianna Younge which occurred on the 23rd of April, 2025. criminal elements, including racists, rioters, bandits, murderers, and robbers, seized the opportunity to use the young girl’s name as cover for their evil works. These included looting, stealing, physical assaults, burning of properties and the likes. But one of the most vile attacks which was carried out during the days of unrest following Adrianna’s death was an attack on innocent children.
Local media reported on the 28th of April, 2025, that two men of African descent on motorcycles approached and threw acid into the faces of several children who were going home from primary school, and their teachers. The acid burned their faces but thankfully, by God’s loving grace, missed the eyes. (See pictures below).
According to a Guyana Daily News post, “Three Chateau Margot Primary School students and their teacher were on their way home this afternoon when two Afro-Guyanese males rode up on a motorcycle and threw acid at them.”

Investigations into the matter by citizens led to the recovery of dashcam footage which shows the suspects on the motorcycle, one of their faces clearly visible. The hunt is still on for these criminals as local law enforcement work to track them down.
On the 30th of April, 2025, Guyana’s Minister of Legal Affairs and Attorney General, Hon. Anil Mohabir Nandlall, says the criminals who threw acid at innocent persons, including children, “may be charged with terrorism” which carries a fine of $500,000 and a maximum of 15 years imprisonment.

This statement, while welcome, is less than gratifying. These children will have to live with the trauma of facing an acid attack for reasons they cannot comprehend. These persons risked having their eyesight damaged by having acid thrown at their face. They will have to heal from both physical and emotional scars.
This was a diabolical act far worse than terrorism committed by persons devoid of humanity. As humans, our duty is to love, care for, and protect children of all races and religious backgrounds. We need stronger statements and more fitting justice for such heinous crimes.
May God bless and protect the victims and bring justice to the criminals.
