Iconic Jamaican Singer, Sean Paul, suggests that he was at some point inspired by legendary Guyanese cricketer, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, since Sean called out Shiv’s name during his songs on numerous occasions.
CHAN-DER-PAUL
In the lyrics of some of Sean Paul’s songs, you would hear him chorus “Chanderpaul!” Most of his fans thought he was saying “Sean-de-Paul” in a reference to himself. However, in an interview with Vice News published on YouTube on the 8th of December, 2022, the legendary Jamaican singer and performer revealed that he was actually saying, “Chanderpaul” in a tribute to one of his cricket heroes, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, from whom the Jamaican artiste might have drawn inspiration for success or otherwise.
During the interview, Sean Paul mistakenly said that Shivnarine was from Trinidad. By now, we’re sure that he has gotten the update that Shiv is from Guyana.
Interviewer: How did you become Sean Da Paul?
Sean Paul: There is a famous cricketer in Trinidad, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, everybody was like Chanderpaul, and yo, that name stuck. And then I just started to say it in shows and met the dude Chanderpaul years later, and he’s like “Yo!” hehehe. But yea, big up to Shivnarine Chanderpaul.
