Last updated: November 2, 2024 at 19:26 pmResidents of Port Mourant Village, Corentyne, Berbice, are up in arms in protest against what they deem an injustice against a law-abiding, hardworking citizen of this country. According to sources close to the matter, an armed robbery occurred on Saturday at the Port Mourant Market in Region 6, Corentyne, Berbice. In the course of the robbery, Sunil Madramootoo AKA chicken man ran to the defense of a fellow vendor engaging two armed bandits in close combat – a fight that led to the death of one of the bandits.
What is currently outraging the residents of Port Mourant, especially those close to Madramootoo, is that he was charged with murder when he was allegedly acting in self defense and also in defense of the goods, lives, and properties of his fellow vendors. One source with firsthand knowledge of the matter told this publication that he is distraught and disappointed with the justice system that is dragging a law-abiding citizen before the courts for alleged murder of a bandit who came with the intent of killing, stealing, maiming, and destroying.
According to sources with knowledge of the matter, two armed bandits entered into a jewelry store at the Port Mourant Market on Saturday and brutally attacked and robbed a businessman who owns the jewelry shop. “They threw him to the ground, beat the man, filled their bag with jewelry and money and attempted to escape.”
While escaping, one of the bandits was shot on the leg by an unknown person. There are speculations that he might have been shot by a third bandit who came to “rob the robbers” during a elaborate setup, but this remains mere speculation. One of the bandits also discharged a round at an innocent bystander close to the scene of the robbery, seriously wounding him.
Sunil Madramootoo, who operated a chicken business within the vicinity of the robbery, was alerted that there were bandits in action. Madramootoo reportedly armed himself with a cutlass and confronted the bandits demanding that they return the looted items. A fight ensued during which Madramootoo delivered several fatal chops to one of the bandits.
Residents and persons close to Madramootoo have related to this publication that he was a hardworking, honest, and law-abiding citizen who started his career as a porter and baggage boy at the tender age of 5 years old at the Port Mourant Market. He skillfully worked his way up to becoming a businessman owning his own chicken business which he now operates. All these factors combined enrage and distress residents, especially close friends and family members, that an honest, hardworking citizen has been put behind bars for acting in self defense and for confronting a bandit, the likes of which terrorize, rob, kill, and maim law abiding citizens.
