A young woman of the Rupununi, Region 9, has been left in great pain, almost to the point of death, after she was allegedly badly beaten by her ex lover who is also the father of her child. A wanted bulletin was not yet posted by the Guyana Police Force for the alleged attacker who is now reportedly on the run. According to persons close to the woman, who has been identified by first name “Tricia,” the man carefully planned the attack, traveled up to Lethem from Georgetown, forced his way into the woman’s home and assaulted her last evening, 29th of June, 2024.

Residents of the Rupununi are outraged at yet another tragic case of violence against women. They are calling for justice, and for the police to do their job speedily. According to residents, the woman was beaten “almost to the point of death.”

“She can barely move. She can’t talk at the moment. Her collar bone is broken,” Nikita Cassiono, an eyewear specialist of Region 9, told this publication. Nikita, a friend of the victim, is rallying help and support for the badly beaten woman who is currently in intensive care at the Lethem Regional Hospital.

This is not the first time this woman reportedly suffered violence at the hands of her attacker. In November, 2023, the victim shared a disturbing Facebook Post detailing physical abuse and violence at the hands of her former lover (screenshot below).
It is alarming to this publication that the incident described above flew under the radar of both police and media.
Suspect Reportedly on the Run
Although the residents of Region 9 have posted photographs and information of the suspect in social media groups, there has so far been no press statement by the Guyana Police Force on whether the suspect is actively being pursued by the Police. This publication called the Lethem Police Station and was told that information on the matter cannot be provided at this moment. We were also been unable to find any Press Statement on the Region 9 Police social media page or the social media page of the Guyana Police Force.
