Trapped in the US, Former Miss Universe Belize Cries Out for Help

In an ironic twist of events, former Belizean Beauty Queen Iris Salguero has now found herself in a destitute situation… a situation which reflects those of countless other women who are suffering in silence, and whose cries for help are often unheard.

Once a glamorous and celebrated role model, Iris represented her homeland, Belize, in the Miss Universe Beauty Pageant 2021. Salguero was crowned Miss Universe Belize in 2021 and represented Belize at the 71st Miss Universe pageant in San Jose, Costa Rica. She was also Miss San Pedro in 2015, Miss Earth in 2017, and Miss America Latina del Mundo in 2018.

Apparently, her life took a dramatic turn for the worse after she got involved with a man (presently unnamed) who promised her a better life in the US. Her story reflects the horrors of blackmail, human trafficking, and exploitation. Iris Salguero, unable to provide for herself and child, is now living in a shelter in the United States. Fearing that she could lose custody of her child, she is appealing to the general public for help.

In a heart-wrenching video, posted below, Ms. Salguero details the horrors of her present situation. A Go Fund Me campaign has been initiated to help Iris garner the financial support she needs to save herself and her child.
