Last updated: March 27, 2025 at 15:07 pmSending a strong message of deterrent against Venezuela, the United States Embassy in Guyana announced today that the US Navy cruiser “USS NORMANDY” is currently in Guyana’s waters conducting joint exercises with the GDF’s patrol vessel “SHAHOUD.” This move comes in the face of mounting Venezuelan aggression over the disputed Essequibo region, and on the heels of a recent incursion by Venezuelan military vessels into Guyana’s waters.
The United States Embassy in Guyana announced today:
“The U.S. Navy cruiser USS NORMANDY and the Guyana Defence Force patrol vessel SHAHOUD are conducting joint exercises in international waters and the Guyana Exclusive Economic Zone to exercise communications and interoperability, and practice joint maneuvers. This valuable opportunity for both the U.S. and Guyanese militaries reflects the close relationship between our two countries and the strength of our military-to-military cooperation.”
In early March 2025, the Venezuelan military sent naval vessels into Guyana’s waters, which they falsely claim are still “pending delimitation” to warn EXXONMOBIL FPSOs that they need to desist from operating in “waters pending delimitation.” Subsequently, the United States Ambassador to Guyana, Nicole D. Theriot, issued a strong statement in support of Guyana signally the United States’ readiness to “stand with” and “defend” Guyana against any threat of force by Venezuela. This recent move by the United States drives home the point that the US is not bluffing, and if the Maduro Regime in Venezuela makes the reckless and imprudent move of advancing its military further, it will be met with firm resistance from the United States.
The current Trump Administration is no friend of the Maduro Dictatorial Regime. Trump recently applied further sanctions on Venezuela which resulted in the closure of Chevron’s operations in the country. Further, Trump warned that countries buying Venezuela’s oil will be slapped with a 25% tariff. The Trump Administration is firmly resolved to crush the Cuban and Venezuelan communist dictatorial regimes in the hopes of restoring democracy and prosperity to the people of those countries.
