On the 1st of April, 2024, the Israeli Defense Force reportedly struck an Iranian consulate building near to the Iranian embassy in Damascus, Syria. The airstrike, reportedly carried out by Israeli F-35 military jets, killed a total of 16 persons, including Iranian officials, military personnel, and two civilians. After the airstrike, Israel did not take responsibility, nor did they deny it, but said they were bracing for an Iranian counteroffensive.

That counteroffensive has been slow in coming and reflects poorly on Iranian defense capability. It has been more than 2 weeks now since Iran vowed revenge for Israel’s attack on their consulate building in Syria, but there has been no substantial response on their part. Iran’s hesitancy to respond to the IDF offensive paints a worrisome picture of Israel’s most formidable middle eastern enemy. They seem to be afraid of Israel.

All branches of the Israeli Defense Forces have been put on full alert and the IDF has canceled leave for its military personnel as it braces for an Iranian military response to the April 1st attack. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says that Israel is ready to “hurt who seeks to hurt them.”

But why is Israel seemingly pushing Iran to engage in a full scale war? The answer is simple. Israel wants to dismantle and demolish Iran’s military capabilities. The April 1st 2024 airstrike in Damascus Syria was a clear act of provocation double-daring Iran to fight back. Iran might not be able to rely on its fellow Middle Eastern Muslim counterparts such as Turkey, UAE, or Saudi Arabia, but western nations such as the United States and Germany has already expressed willingness to support Israel militarily.

For decades, Iranian backed militant groups such as Hezbollah and Hamas have been carrying out intermittent terrorist attacks on Israeli citizens. This has led to several wars between Israel and Palestine. Israel wants to live in peace. The Israeli government wants its citizens to enjoy peace and freedom without the fear of rockets falling on their heads, destroying their buildings, and destroying precious lives. Israelis want to live without the fear of another terrorist attack like the horrific one which was brutally carried out on October 7th, 2023.

Yes, Israel may be pressuring Iran into a full scale war, but it has its reasons for doing so. Iran has once threatened to “wipe Israel off the map.” Now, Israel is double-daring them. Israel wants to settle the story once and for all. Too many terrorist attacks on Israeli Jews have left very few options. In the eyes of Israeli government, which wants its citizens to sleep in peace, war has now become the most viable blueprint for peace.
