Many Guyanese will remember this song by Pepe Moreno entitled “Quer Beber” which means “I want to Drink.”
Although the rhythm of the song is beautiful, the message contained in it is misleading. Drinking and sporting may be fun and games for some people, but we wish to remind all that alcohol is the cause of many deaths, sicknesses, broken homes, and poverty. Drink responsibly.
Below are the lyrics to this song first in Brazilian Portuguese and then in English.
Please note: Due to the differences in Portuguese and English phonetics and accent, some words are pronounced very differently from the way they would be pronounced in English. For example, the title of the song, “Quer Beber” is pronounced “Kay-Beh-beh.” Pay attention to the variations in Portuguese phonetics and accent.
