Last updated: September 22, 2024 at 1:55 amI wrote this poem in honor of Meshach Pierre, the 30 year old successful Guyanese biologist, photographer, and conservation specialist who reportedly committed suicide on Thursday, 19th of September, 2024. The exact reason or reasons for Pierre’s alleged suicide is unclear at this moment. Depression and mental health issues are mere speculation. An autopsy revealed that Pierre died from compression injuries to the neck and a suicide note, addressed to his parents, was found in his phone. May his soul rest in peace and may his memory be a blessing.
At the same time, I’d like to encourage everyone who is fighting silent, unseen battles to turn to God who sometimes is the only source which can give you the answers and strength you need to overcome life’s challenges….
Remembering Meshach Pierre
In the quiet dawn, where shadows play,

You sought the secrets where nature entwines.
You danced with cells, unraveled the thread,
Explored the world where few dared to tread.
Yet beneath the brilliance, a struggle ran deep,
A silent battle, a sorrow to keep.
The weight of the world, a heavy shroud,
In moments of stillness, you felt so loud.
Yet in your pursuit of the microscopic truth,
You searched for solace, you searched for youth.
In the lab’s soft glow, you found your grace,
But outside those walls, a darker place.
Though you fought with courage, and dreams to fulfill,
The shadows grew deeper, the light grew still.
We gather today, with hearts heavy, worn,
To honor your life and your absence mourn.
Your legacy blooms in the minds you inspired,
In every discovery, your spirit conspired.
So here’s to the journeys you bravely embraced,
The wonders of life that you meticulously traced.
Though you’ve left us too soon, your light will remain,
In the whispers of nature, through joy and through pain.
