A young man from Berbice went to ask his girlfriend’s hand in marriage. The girl’s father said to him, “so tell us what work you do.”
The young man replied, “I operate a sophisticated No. 22 industrial machine which separates the sweet from the soil at Guyana’s largest industry.”
The father was impressed and the wedding was quickly arranged.
One day, the father-in-law requested to visit the young man’s workplace. The son-in-law happily agreed and took him the next day, but he was shocked to learn that the young man was a cane cutter.
