The police have confirmed that a 16-year-old Venezuelan male has been murdered during a scuffle in Lethem, Rupununi Savannahs, Guyana, South America.
According to reports, the youth, like many other Venezuelan nationals, has been residing in Lethem for several weeks due to the deteriorating economic conditions in Venezuela. His body was discovered at the Tabatinga Bridge in Lethem around 4:00 A.M on the morning of Sunday, September 15.
Details of the incident are still sketchy at the moment. However, some reports suggest that the sister of the victim was being sexually harassed by the suspect. The lad stepped up in defense of his sister when the suspect dealt him several blows with a cutlass, resulting in his death.
The suspect, a 22-year-old mechanic from Lethem, is in police custody assisting with investigations and has reportedly confessed to the crime.
The body of the deceased is presently at the Lethem Mortuary.
