As the tabulation of votes continue to move at a snail’s pace, the preliminary results for nine out of ten regions across Guyana have been declared by GECOM. The only outstanding region as of 10 PM on March 4th 2020 is Demerara-Mahaica (Region 4).
Of the two major political parties, the PPP/C has copped 151,941 votes from the 9 declared regions, while the APNU/AFC won 100,682 votes.
There have been a number of hiccups in finalizing the results for Region 4. These include complaints that discrepancies were found in the results produced by GECOM, and claims that a spreadsheet which was generated was showing figures different from those on the statements of poll.
Until Region 4 results are declared, the PPP/C is ahead of the APNU/AFC by 51,259 votes.
