
Earlier, we had published an article entitled, “Fears of Coronavirus Threaten to Cancel Rupununi Rodeo 2020.” Well now, it has officially happened.
The Rupununi Lifestock Producer’s Association (RLPA) has this morning, 14th of March 2020, published an announcement that the annual Rupununi Rodeo scheduled for the 11th-12th of April will be cancelled.

The statement reads as follows:
Cancellation Notice: Rupununi Rancher’s Rodeo 2020 (11th – 12th April 2020) at the Triple R Rodeo Ground, Lethem, Central Rupununi.
The Rupununi Livestock Producer’s Association (RLPA) with great regret wishes to inform the general public that the Rupununi Rancher’s Rodeo, which was scheduled for the 11th – 12th April 2020, has been cancelled due to the rising concerns of the public health threat of the Coronavirus (COVID-19)
We ask for your kind understanding in that this decision was taken in consultation with regional stakeholders who share the same health concerns of the safety of the people of the Rupununi and all our potential visitors who are at the heart of our decision. It is our responsibility to ensure that this event does not contribute to the spread of this pandemic.
We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this cancellation will cause.
The RLPA wishes to encourage everyone to follow the protocols of health experts and local authorities.
