Upon withdrawal, the Carter Center had stated that they are committed to promoting democracy and constitutional reform in Guyana and would be willing to return when the electoral process resumes.

On the 13th of March, 2020, after a series of chaotic events at the GECOM office in Georgetown, the Carter Center in a joint statement with the European Union Observer Mission and the Commonwealth said that they are “deeply concerned about the continued lack of transparency in the ascertainment of results for Region 4.”

The Carter Center, founded by former US President Jimmy Carter and his wife Rosalynn Carter, has helped to ensure free and fair elections in hundreds of countries around the world for the past several decades.
