Trans Guyana Airways has announced that it will resume Lethem-Ogle flights from tomorrow, 8th of May, 2020. The flights were suspended for about one month due to coronavirus lockdown.

According to a notice from Trans Guyana, the flights will take place on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays only. On those days, the plane will leave Ogle for Lethem at 11:00 AM and arrive in Lethem at 12:00 noon. One flight will also depart Lethem at 12:45 PM and arrive at Ogle at 1:45 PM.

The company announced that strict social distancing and sanitation measures will be implemented, all customers and employees will be required to wear mask, temperatures for customers and employees will be checked and the plane will be thoroughly sanitized after each flight. In addition to this, all employees of Trans Guyana Airways have been educated on COVID-19.

This news will be welcomed by some people, but it may be especially worrying for residents of Region 9 because of fears that it can increase the chances of the coronavirus hitting the isolated Rupununi with limited medical equipment. The residents of the Rupununi have been pushing for greater ban on travel to the Region, and many indigenous communities have put up gates to bar travelers.
