At the end of day 6 of the national vote recount, 11th of May, 2020, a total of 54 ballot boxes have been counted at the Arthur Chung Convention Center in Georgetown, Guyana, South America. This brings the total number of counted ballot boxes up to 235 out of 2339. That also means that GECOM has 19 days left in which to complete counting a total 2104 ballot boxes.
PPP/C Satisfied with Recount, But APNU/AFC Cries Foul
Former Attorney General, Anil Nandlall, told the press that they encountered several difficulties with the APNU/AFC agents. In one instance, the APNU/AFC agent refused to open the lock on the container for the ballot box to be taken out, saying that no container should be opened after 5 PM. In this case, he said, GECOM was forced to cut the lock.
Also, many people continue to be alarmed at the fact that the APNU/AFC continues to claim that there are “major discrepancies” on the ballots such as dead people voting and migrated people voting. Mr. Nandlall says that although they are making these claims, they are not producing evidence to back up these claims.
The APNU/AFC is now claiming that the electoral process of March 2, 2020 was highly flawed – for an election they once claimed that they had won. It raises the question now as to why they are claiming that the electoral process was flawed while also claiming that it gives them a victory. A flawed victory maybe?
