Today, 17th of May, 2020 marks the 12th day of the ongoing recount of all votes cast in the March 2, 2020 national elections in Guyana, South America. For special surprises, the incumbent president David Granger has paid a courtesy call to the Arthur Chung Convention Center in Georgetown where the recount is taking place.
At the end of today, 60 more ballot boxes were completed. Region 1 results were certified and all parties agreed and signed. However, there has been no update on the previously discussed addition of 6 more workstations.
Yesterday, Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs, Mr. Basil Williams, had said that the recount cannot be used to declare a winner of the March 2, 2020 elections, and that the previously disputed March 4 declaration still stands. However, he was later contradicted by one of his own party members, Mr. Roysdale Forde. Further, Mr. Granger today said that he will accept “any” declaration made by GECOM. When asked about the statement made by Mr. Basil Williams, Mr. Granger iterated, “I speak for the coalition, and we will accept the results declared by GECOM.”
