Politics, Elections 2020, Georgetown, Guyana, South America
Secretary General of the Commonwealth, Patricia Scotland, has today, 15th of June, 2020, released a statement via the Commonwealth Official Website urging all Guyanese, especially leaders to respect the results of the recount.
This statement is evidently directed especially toward the David Granger Administration since they are the only ones still challenging the results of the recount which was recently concluded in Georgetown, Guyana, South America.
In the statement, the Secretary General noted:
The people of Guyana has been patient and deserve finality as determined by the result of the recount.
She further noted that President Granger had earlier promised to respect the results of the recount. Her statement joins a conglomerate of international powers which have repeatedly urged Guyana to respect the results of the recount and use it to install a legitimate and democratic government. Today, the OAS made a similar statement, urging a democratic transition of government based on the recount results.
Having received Reports of Recount from both the Chief Elections Officer, Keith Lowenfield, and the CARICOM 3-members team, the GECOM Chair, Claudette Singh, is expected to make an official declaration of Guyana’s March, 2, 2020 elections tomorrow, June, 16th, 2020.
