Commonwealth Secretary General, Patricia Scotland, today, 24th of June, 2020, sent out a strongly worded statement backing up the statement made by CARICOM Chair, Honorable Mia Mottley, stating in effect that the actions taken by Chief Elections Officer were contrary to fundamental Commonwealth principles.

It has recently been reported that the Chief Elections Officer has presented results to the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) that do not reflect that which was certified at the end of the recount process. If this is indeed true, it would be contrary to the fundamental principles which are treasured by the Commonwealth family and are enshrined in our Commonwealth Charter.

As the APNU/AFC coalition continues to desperately grasp at every last straw to keep its head above the troubled waters of politics, it also continues to drag itself more and more into a state of disrepute. In fact, the image of the APNU/AFC has been so tarnished that many people question its very survival after the inevitable 2020 defeat – a definite end result which the David Granger Administration is senselessly trying to avoid.

When the Chief Elections Officer, Keith Lowenfield, presented his report to GECOM a few days ago, showing that he had single-handedly and autonomously subtracted 115,000 + votes, the GECOM chair probably thought that that was a joke. After all, the GECOM chair had instructed the CEO to prepare a report based on the RECOUNT RESULTS. Bare in mind that the recount results were certified and endorsed by the CARICOM Scrutineer Team.

Mr. Lowenfield took it upon himself to disenfranchise over 100,000 voters without a plausible explanation as to his basis for doing so. And what’s worse is that he did it with the entire world watching.

Indeed, the recently submitted CARICOM report describes the actions of the APNU/AFC as “gerrymandering,” and a recent headline by the Jamaica Observer referred to the situation in Guyana as a “shameful circus.” Needless to say, by now it should be pretty obvious who the clowns of the circus show are. But what is amazing is the willingness of the APNU/AFC supporters to showcase such blatant stupidity on the international screen. As Mr. Dominic Gaskin so aptly put it, “Elections 2020 Has Been A National Embarrassment.”
