A young, promising teacher of Region 9 has become Guyana’s 15th COVID-19 fatality, but persons close to the victim are contending that she contracted the virus while at the Georgetown Hospital and not in Region 9.
The sad and tragic news has reached this publication that the patient who was air dashed from Lethem to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation on the 27th of June, 2020 has died last evening, Saturday, 4th of July, 2020 at around 11 PM.
Donna Ambrose Greaves was a popular teacher of the Rupununi Savannahs who was much loved and respected by those who knew her. She was particularly known for going above and beyond the call of duty in assisting students put in her care. As a result, the tiny border town of Lethem has been plunged into a state of shock and mourning. Donna was 25 years old at the time of her death. She leaves to mourn her husband, son and many others.
Donna Ambrose Greaves has become Guyana’s latest coronavirus victim, however relatives and friends are suggesting that she was not infected in Region 9, but that she was infected at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation due to hospital negligence, carelessness and mismanagement.
Sources close to the deceased have related to this publication that Donna, aside from having tested negative for COVID-19 in Lethem, also tested negative in Georgetown, Guyana. However, she was reportedly placed close to coronavirus patients in the Georgetown Hospital and later complained of an itchy throat. A third test was then conducted which returned positive.
Further, it was reported to this publication that all 13 staff of the Lethem Regional Hospital who were tested for COVID-19 returned negative, which further strengthens the argument that Donna Greaves was not infected with COVID-19 in Region 9.
Donna Greaves was admitted to the Lethem Regional Hospital with symptoms of weakness, anemia and chest pains on the 25th of June, 2020. She tested negative for COVID-19 in Region 9. However, when her condition worsened, she was transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation where she passed away on the 4th of July.
