The Battle for Guyana’s Democracy Continues….
The Guyana Elections Commission is now split along party lines with the government commissions scraping for a fraudulent declaration or a nullification of the March 2, 2020 elections and the PPP/C commissioners pushing for the lawful declaration of the winner based on the CARICOM certified recount results.
A conglomerate of international powers including the 15 member CARICOM, the 52 member Commonwealth, the 36-member OAS, the European Union, UK, USA and Canada have all called on Mr. Granger to respect the recount results and concede defeat. However, the embattled former Brigadier seems hell bent on clinging to power at all costs and have consequently faced harsh criticisms from international leaders, even having been referred to as a “sanctimonious gangster.”
GECOM Chair, Retired Justice Claudette Singh, has once again taken a firm stance for democracy by ordering the APNU/AFC aligned Chief Elections Officer, Mr. Keith Lowenfield, to prepare his report for submission by 2 PM today, June 10, 2020. Mr. Lowenfield had previously engaged in several criminally offensive acts such as autonomously disenfranchising over 115,000 voters and refusing to comply with the command hierarchy of GECOM.
The letter, dated 9th of July, 2020, reads:
Guyana Elections Commission
Office of the Chairman
July 9, 2020
Mr. Keith Lowenfield,
Chief Elections Officer,
31 Fort Street, Kingston
Georgetown
Dear CEO,
Re: Preparation and Submission of Election Report
Section 18 of the Elections Laws Act No 15 of 2000 stipulates that you are subject to the direction and control of the Commission.
In accordance with this section, and pursuant to Article 177 (2) (b) of the Constitution and section 96 of the Representation of the People Act Cap: 1:03, you are hereby requested to prepare and submit your report on the March 2, 2020 General and Regional Elections by 2 pm on the 10th of July, 2020, using the valid votes counted in the National Recount as per certificates of Recount generated therefrom.
Best Regards,
Justice Claudette Singh, SC, CCH
Chairperson
Guyana Elections Commission.
At least two private citizens have filed criminal charges against CEO Keith Lowenfield after he submitted a fraudulent report on June 23rd, 2020 – in direct defiance of the instructions handed down to him by the GECOM Chair.
As of this morning, 10th of July, 2020, the eyes of the world are upon the CEO while Guyanese await a long anticipated election result.
Meanwhile, Mrs. Sandra Granger, the former first lady of Guyana, has published a Facebook Post calling for fresh elections. The motive behind such a suggestion is truly selfish as it would leave the country without a government for perhaps another six months.
