Reports coming from the South Central Village of Potarinau, Region 9, Guyana are that two persons have died from COVID-19 and 4 more tested positive in the village today.

The victims are said to be George Ignace and Fredrick Matthew – an elderly couple over 60 years of age. This would bring the total number of COVID-19 victims in the Rupununi up to 3.

Region 9 is thought to be one of the places in Guyana most vulnerable to and most ill prepared for the COVID-19 pandemic – especially since it forms a very porous border with coronavirus epicenter, Brazil. A fundraiser has been set up to help residents of Region 9 fight the coronavirus pandemic.
