4 More Persons Test Positive for Coronavirus in Region 9

The Regional Health Officer of Region 9 has confirmed that 4 more test results returned positive for coronavirus in Region 9, Guyana, South America as of yesterday, 26th of July, 2020. This drives the total number of coronavirus cases in Region 9 up to 22 – with 17 active cases, 3 recovered, 1 deceased and 1 migrated.

In addition, two elderly persons from South Central Rupununi have died last week after displaying symptoms of COVID-19 and after having come in contact with COVID positive persons. However, tests were not conducted to confirm whether they died from coronavirus.

Last Friday, the Lethem Regional Hospital sent 47 samples to the reference lab in Georgetown and so far has received test results for 13 of those samples. 4 of the 13 samples returned positive and 9 negative. They are presently awaiting the results of the remaining 34 samples.

The four positive cases are from Quiko and Potarinau Villages in the South Central Rupununi Savannahs of Guyana.

The Lethem Hospital has conducted a total of 172 COVID-19 tests.
