8th of August, 2020. Georgetown, Guyana, South America.

Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Governance, Gail Teixeira, has yesterday, 7th of August, 2020, in a Media Briefing, said that the Guyana Forestry Commission has gone from 4 billion dollars in surplus when the PPP/C left office in 2015 to hundreds of millions in debt in 2020 after 5 years of APNU/AFC governance.

Statement from Gail Teixeira – 7th of August, 2020

Just again for the public to know, when we left office in 2015, the Guyana Forestry Commission had 4 billion dollars surplus. Today it is bankrupt. It cannot pay the staff…it did not pay the staff in July because it didn’t have money. It is hundreds of millions of dollars in debt. And so, we have no apologies to make for bringing to the public’s attention what is happening to our country and what has happened to our country. How could 4 billion dollars just disappear in a Ministry which brings in revenue all the time?

You’re all aware of the Liliendal Hospital Scandal. And the scandal gets deeper and wider with every day. And so, we are not going to be preached to by those whose record is now up to examination and will be examined, I’m sure, by the auditors in great depth. But we have to also make sure that we as a government are protecting our people.
