Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali was sworn in as the ninth executive president of Guyana, South America on the 2nd of August, 2020 following a PPP/C victory at the polls of the March 2020 elections. He was inaugurated six days later on the 8th of August, 2020.

Dr. Ali was born in Guyana, South America and was raised in the village of Leonora on the West Coast of Demerara – the son of two educators. He attended Leonora Nursery, Leonora Primary, Cornelia Ida Primary and St. Stanislaus College Secondary School. Ali holds a Doctorate in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of the the West Indies.

He’s a former Project Manager of the Caribbean Development Bank Project Implementation Unit Guyana. He became a member of the National Assembly of Guyana in 2006 and has served as Minister of Housing and Water and Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce.

In 2015, Dr. Ali met his wife, Arya Ali – a former GRA employee and University of Guyana graduate who is currently furthering her education at the University of the West indies. The union, to date, has produced one offspring – Zayd Ali – born in 2017.
