A young man of Region 9, Guyana, South America, who has recently completed his isolation period, has painted a dreary picture of the circumstances under which residents of Region 9 are kept in isolation.
The young man had completed his isolation period about one week ago. He was put in isolation after having come in contact with COVID-19 persons. However, his wife, who is a healthcare worker, is currently in isolation after having come in contact with COVID-19 positive persons.
This is His Story
I am kindly asking the Regional Authorities to look into this issue immediately. The COVID-19 patients continue to BEG for better treatment in isolation (Old Malaria Camp, Lethem). It’s going to one week that our people have been given limited & stale food of cook up rice with no beef/chicken or anything to eat.
Common, we are asking/begging?? In isolation these are our people, not animals. They need to be treated better, and even so we have some teachers and Community Health workers as patients who were working in their respective communities and now being isolated. One of the patient related to me that she will soon die of hunger and not of COVID-19.
Imagine half slice bread with a cup of tea served at 8 for breakfast, stale cook up rice ONLY with water served at 13:30 hrs for lunch and dinner at 17:00hrs….EVERYDAY????? Common!!
Our people know about eating a balance diet too, maybe because they are all Amerindians persons tend to treat them like this? I know you would never like your husband, wife or relatives to be treated this way, so PLEASE feel for others. After all being said, our people need better food, with some fruits or fresh juice EVERYDAY. Remember we are also fighting to help these patients recover. I once again call on this issue to be look into ASAP.
