Copied from the Facebook Page of front line worker, Lisa Lall.
So today I had my first unfortunate experience of a patient refusing to be swabbed for covid-19, all because of what she read on Facebook and that distasteful voice note circulating on watsapp about the swabs kits being contaminated with the virus.
Imagine how difficult that experience was, standing there at the bedside of a patient who genuinely thinks that I came there to infect her on purpose! For first time since the pandemic and serving in the COVID ICU Team, I felt defeated.
As if things aren’t hard enough for our team, we now have to convince patients to be swabbed. I wonder if politicians ever think about the front line workers like us and how much harder they make our jobs when they spread silly rumors such as these.
Imagine how one little lie can undermine the fight of an entire country to be rid of this virus!
If you don’t believe us the front line workers, ask the families who have lost loved ones to the virus!
Refusing to be tested doesn’t just affect our work but it means that:
1) your kids will take longer to be reintegrated into the school system, think about the bigger ones with impending exams and what this means for their future endeavors!
2) your husband and wives that depend on daily jobs to survive will continue to be unemployed and in return your household will suffer.
3) your older folks- mother, father will continue to be at the mercy of the virus because you may be positive and spread it to them.
4) almost everyone has a family member or friend that works in Healthcare. Think about how tired and stressed they are right now…FIVE MONTHS INTO A PANDEMIC!
So you see, getting swabbed is not only about you; so many aspects of daily life is affected. The future of this country depends on it. The well being of your household depends on it and lastly the lives of your loved ones depends on it!
