Last updated: September 7, 2020 at 12:40 pmWe are Guyanese, we belong to each other, we must protect each other, we must support each other, because we are a family.
Last night, I was deeply horrified to see the images of the death of two young members of our Guyanese family Joel and Isaiah Henry. There can be NO excuse, explanation, or justification for this kind of brutality, and it will NOT be tolerated. This kind of brutality, or any brutality for that matter, has no place in our Guyanese family and must be condemned by all. President Ali has already assured that no effort will be spared in bringing the perpetrator(s) to justice.
In addition, there can be and must be NO discussion which seeks to denigrate the characters of these two young members. Young members are the future of our family and they deserve only our protection, guidance, and support. It is important that we remember that life once lost cannot be resurrected, so even before the intervention of the State to bring the perpetrator(s) to justice (which must be done immediately), ALL Guyanese must learn that all life is a precious gift from God and we all have a responsibility to protect that life in ourselves and each other.
All Guyanese must learn to appreciate that we are Guyanese, we belong to each other, we must protect each other, we must support each other, because we are a family. We all have the responsibility to learn and teach this lesson – Be your brother’s keeper.
We all share in the sadness of the loss of these two young members of our Guyanese family and our prayers and support for each other is important especially during this time.
