Last updated: April 17, 2021 at 13:04 pmA number of small miners and shop owners of Marudi Mountain in Region 9, Guyana, South America, in speaking with this publication, have expressed grave dissatisfaction and outrage at the way officers of the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission are conducting themselves. The distraught citizens of Guyana claim oppression and victimization which is making it harder and harder by the day for them to earn an honest living.
Miners and shop owners of District 6 in particular have said that they have been waiting for months for permission to resume working – but to date, such permission has not been forthcoming, leaving them in a state of stagnation and frustration.
The citizens pointed out that one particular GGMC officer have been especially abusive. They allege that he has been verbally abusing small miners and business owners, taking bribes, transporting goods and alcoholic beverages across restricted areas with the use of government vehicles, and several other offenses aimed at suppressing the livelihood of longstanding shop owners and miners of Marudi Mountain.
