Last updated: November 28, 2021 at 13:25 pmAuthorities report that a man latched on to the landing gear of an airplane as it took off from the airport in Guatemala City, Guatemala, Central America. The American Airlines Flight #1182 departed Guatemala City on Saturday, 27th of November, 2021, at around 7:30 A.M Eastern Standard Time and landed in Miami at around 10:00 A.M.
After the plane touched down and stopped at Miami International Airport, in Miami, USA, the man limped off the landing gear and staggered a few steps before falling down. The man appeared feeble and battered as he asked for water. Airport officials were seen assisting him.
By all appearances, the man risked his life for a better life in the United States, although some people have speculated that he might be a convicted criminal running from the law.
Many people view the survival of this man during this 2.5 hours ordeal on the landing gear of the plane as a complete miracle. To date, there have been no records of anyone else successfully completing such a stunt. Due to altitude, temperate, pressure and so many other factors, it is difficult, if not impossible, for anyone to survive such a ride. This particular case has proven that it is not impossible to survive such an ordeal, but his survival might very well be a miracle.
Authorities have transported the 26-year-old to a hospital for a medical assessment. It is not clear at this point if he will be allowed to stay in the country or be deported. That may depend on many factors such as whether his criminal record is clean or not and how the immigration authorities view the case.
A similar scenario took place in Afghanistan after the US military pullout where many Afghans clamored to the landing gear and wings of a plane in a desperate bid to flee the country. However, as far as we know, unfortunately, none of those people made it to the landing alive.
Team Guyana, South America wishes to discourage people in general from attempting these kinds of stunts as the potential reward is often not worth the risk.
