Despite aggressive worldwide vaccination campaigns, and just when humans thought they were on the verge of beating the Covid-19 virus, the sudden surge in Covid-19 infections and death in the first few days of 2022 is a clear and worrying sign that the finish line in the race against the elusive and deadly virus is nowhere in sight.
While the Christmas and New Year celebrations may have served as a catalyst for Covid-19, the fact that very healthy and also vaccinated people are falling gravely ill from the virus is troubling. Nevertheless, the recovery rate for all strains of Covid-19 is still relatively high. At the same time, we must remember that the virus is unpredictable. It may cause mild symptoms in one person while killing another of the same health status. Therefore, it is advisable to all people take precautions against the virus.

Yesterday, 14th of January, 2022, Brazil recorded a staggering 111,112 new cases and 233 deaths. More than 68% of the Brazilian population is fully vaccinated and more than 78% received at least one dose.
Guyana, South America, with a population of less than 1 million, recorded a staggering 865 new cases yesterday with a 7-day average of 832. There were 6 Covid-19 deaths in Guyana yesterday. More than 52% of the Guyanese population is fully vaccinated while more than 37% received at least one dose.
On the 10th of January, 2022, Canada recorded 33,483 new Covid-19 cases and 76 Covid-19 deaths. More than 78% of the Canadian population is fully vaccinated while more than 84% received at least one dose.
