Last updated: March 29, 2022 at 1:00 amAward-winning actor, Will Smith, may have taken things a bit too seriously when he slapped Chris Rock last evening, March 27th, 2022, at the Oscar Awards ceremony at Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California, USA. But if you put the situation under the microscope, you might conclude that Smith “did what he had to do.”
Chris Rock was at the time on stage sharing out a bit of humor and cracking up the audience when things went awry. Rock made a joke about Smith’s wife – Jada – as you can see from the video below.
Chris Rock made a joke about Jada Smith starring in Part II of GI Jane. At first, Will Smith seemed to have enjoyed the joke, and was seen cracking up in his chair. But if you look carefully, you might notice that Jada Smith seemed visibly pained by the joke – and that’s what might have triggered Will Smith to react that way.
It is apparent from the screenshot above that Jada Smith did not take Chris Rock’s joke in good spirits even though the rest of the audience seemed to have gotten a kick out of it. It can be assumed that Will Smith sensed her pain and felt compelled to do something in his wife’s defense.
Look at Jada Smith’s Reaction to Chris’ Joke
Will Smith stopped laughing, got out of his chair, walked on stage, and delivered a forceful slap to the face of Chris Rock. Will Smith subsequently shouted, “Keep my wife’s name out of your fucking mouth!” After cheerfully digesting the slap, Chris Rock, not losing his sense of humor, composed himself and said, “That was the greatest night in television.”
GI Jane, by the way, is a 1997 American action-drama movie in which actress Demi Moore starred with very short hair. Jada had mentioned in a documentary that she struggled with hair loss. So in essence, Chris Rock might have been poking fun at Jada’s bald head – a joke which she didn’t seem to take with a pinch of salt.
Not so long ago, Jada had openly confessed that she had an extramarital affair, which she described as an “entanglement,” behind Will’s back, but Will Smith said that won’t change his love for her.
So, was Will Smith well within his limits or does he seem to be walking on the edge – mentally speaking? Tell us in the comments.
I can understand Smith getting up into Rock’s face and telling him off, but he went way over the line by resorting to physical violence. I personally don’t think he has mental problems, but he sure could use some anger management classes!
