Last updated: April 6, 2022 at 20:08 pmA woman who had been the victim of a cutlass attack earlier this year has once again complained to this publication that her attacker has issued new threats of violence to her – even while the trial of the previous attack is ongoing in the court.
28-year-old Amrita Singh told this publication that she was riding her bicycle yesterday morning (5th of April) to a shop in Boundyard, Port Mourant, Corentyne, Berbice, Region 6, Guyana, South America when she came face to face with the woman who had attempted to murder her in February this year. The traumatized young woman related that as her eyes clashed with those of the woman, Varshanie Cyril, Varshanie started to scream and ask her “why the f**k” she was looking at her and if she would like to “do something.” At that point, Amrita said, she noticed that Varshanie had a knife in her hand.
“I stayed quiet and didn’t answer her because she had a knife in her hand,” Amrita said.
Varshanie then allegedly shouted to Amrita, “don’t say anything before I ram this f**king knife in your guts.” (Paraphrased).
Amrita said that she thinks that because there were passersby, Varshanie went away, but she is nevertheless traumatized and dreadfully scared of another such encounter. The young woman went straightway to the Whim Police Station and lodged a report of the threat. The police reportedly took her report and promised to arrest Varshanie and bring her along with Amrita for a confrontation at the station.
Speaking to this publication, Mr. Seecharan of Whim Police station, who is in charge of reports, said that the police patrol was occupied with other tasks and did not get to carry out the arrest yesterday. However, he says it will be carried out as early as possible. Meanwhile, Amrita is worried that her attacker is at large and fears for her life and the lives of her family members. Up to the evening of today, April 6th, 2022, the arrest had not yet been made even though the police acknowledged the report.
On the 20th of February, 2022, Varshanie Cyril, armed with a cutlass, dealt Amrita several chops about her head and body while Amrita was returning home on bicycle from a nearly shop. A video which captured the incident went viral on social media. Varshanie was subsequently arrested but later granted bail as the matter is being heard at the courts.
