Contrary to an irresponsible, one-sided report published on the social media page of “Guyana Press,” the RDC Councilor of Region 6, Intikab Ali, explained that he was not the aggressor in the confrontation which turned physical this morning, Saturday, 14th of May, 2022 at around 9:00 A.M.
According to the Guyana Press report, Azad Taki, the owner of Taki Gas Station, of Hogstye Village, Corentyne, Berbice, alleged that he was “mercilessly beaten” by Intikab Ali after he (Taki) attempted to correct a government contractor who was digging a drain opposite his home. The Guyana Press report further attempted to improperly politicize the incident by mentioning that Intikab Ali is a PPP/C councilor while Azad Taki had been an APNU/AFC councilor under the past administration. They did not bother to take a statement from Intikab Ali before publishing their one-sided story.
Speaking to this publication this evening (14th of May, 2022) Ali admitted that he dealt several slaps to Taki after Taki fired a punch at him. According to Intikab, the government contractor was digging a drain opposite the home of Azad Taki when Taki came out and started to verbally abuse the contractor using expletives. The contractor then used his phone to call Intikab Ali who drove to the spot in an effort to diffuse the situation. However, Taki allegedly fired a punch at Ali who then “reacted.”
“After he punched me, I slipped into defense mode and returned several slaps about his (Taki’s) head. I won’t lie about that. But it was out of pure self-defense, and I would do the same again if I find myself in a similar situation in the future, regardless of who the attacker is.”
Ali further noted that he conscientiously retaliated with slaps instead of punches with a clenched fist so as to deter his opponent’s attack without inflicting serious bodily harm upon him. The young man further explained that this particular individual has had a longstanding feud with his family and would be always picking on them.
Several persons close to both parties confirmed to this publication that Intikab Ali acted in self defense and was well within his limits. Persons have described Intikab as peaceful, hardworking youth who digs into the dirt to get stuff done above and beyond the call of duty.
