Displaced Linden Squatters to be Relocated and Compensated – Ministry of Housing

Minister of Housing, Collin Croal, in a press release this morning, 10th of May, 2022, said that Region 10 squatters whose houses were demolished on Saturday, 7th of May, 2022, will be relocated and compensated. Mr. Croal accused opposition political figures of exaggerating the extent of the damage done to structures belonging to squatters.

At Least 18 Dead in Gas Explosion in Cuba

At least 18 people have been confirmed dead and 64 injured after a gas explosion at a Hotel in the Island of Cuba at around 11:AM on the morning of Friday, May 6th, 2022. The explosion was caused by a crack in a hose which occurred during the transfer of liquefied gas from a truck into Hotel Saratoga which is located near Calle Dragones and Paseo de Marti. At least thirteen people have been reported missing, and it is unclear at this point how many remain unaccounted for.

Exploitation of the Working Class is Unfortunately Rampant in Guyana

Underpayment, exploitation, and mistreatment of working class citizens serve as a deterrent for Guyanese citizens needing to enter the workforce. It may discourage young people from seeking employment and push them into a life of crime. It may also push talented persons to seek employment abroad – further contributing to the ongoing brain drain from which Guyana has suffered for decades.
