If all goes according to plan, GDF Captain Kaya Dover will make history tomorrow, Sunday, 26th of June, 2022 by being the first man to swim across the Essequibo River with full uniform including boots. Dover, along with a colleague, will swim from the Eastern Bank to the Western Bank of the Essequibo River, a distance of about 3 miles.

Captain Kaya Dover, 27, is the officer in charge of the GDF’s Jungle and Amphibious Training School in Makoria, Essequibo. He started his career as a soldier with the Guyana Defense Force in 2014. He was commissioned in 2015. In 2017, Dover was one the select few chosen to complete a three-month Jungle Warfare Course in Brazil which he successfully completed in June 2017. The training included a significant amount of aquatic activities.

On March 20, 2022, Dover swam across the Essequibo River in two hours. It was quite a feat, but the young Captain concluded that, although it was a big deal, it had been done before. He wants to do something that is extraordinary and which has not been done before. He came up with the idea of swimming across the Essequibo River with his full uniform including military boots.

The extraordinary swimming event will start at 3 PM and will be streamed live from Kaya Dover’s Facebook Account.

Team Guyana, South America commends Captain Kaya Dover for his strength and courage as this extraordinary accomplishment will brighten Guyana’s image on the world map.

You can cheer Captain Kaya Dover on as he performs this extraordinary feat by watching it live on his Facebook Page.
