Dear Editor,

The government of Guyana and various top ranking officials, including the CEO of GUYSUCO, Mr. Sasenarine Singh, are trying to convince the masses of Guyanese that there’s no shortage of sugar in Guyana. If that be the truth, then why resort to importing sugar from Belize? This is a bag of sugar that I bought today, 19th July 2022, expecting GUYSUCO 50kg brown sugar, but instead I got PRODUCT OF BELIZE.

Aren’t we a sugar producing nation? Don’t we have what’s necessary to meet the local demands?
My biggest issue is that the people in top positions are lying to the general public, saying things like, “WE HAVE LOTS OF SUGAR,” while many businesses have no sugar and the poor people continue to go without or otherwise pay some exorbitant prices.

Tell the people the truth.

Respectfully,

Lanzer Fernandes.
