Two Killed in Mining Pit Accident

Two men were reportedly killed after a mining pit collapsed, burying them, in Region 7, Guyana, South America. The tragedy struck yesterday, Friday, 22nd of July, 2022. A video which surfaced shows workers retrieving the bodies from under the mud.

The dangerous mining pit apparently caved in burying the victims. The video at the end of this article shows workers working to retrieve the bodies. One of the men was known as Seon Martin of Lethem, Region 9. A source said that the other victim is Troy Semple of Linden, also called Rastaman.

Team Guyana South America extends heartfelt condolences to the relatives and friends of the victims.

We also urge all Guyanese to put safety first when working in dangerous areas. Mining pit disasters are unfortunately not uncommon in Guyana and many young men have lost their lives while trying to earn a living in mining areas. We trust that persons will be held responsible for endangering the lives of others.
