Police have said that the car in which the young groom met his death was trying to overtake another car going in the same direction when the fatal accident occurred. The accident occurred around 15:30 hours on Tuesday, August 23rd, 2022

According to the police statement, a motor car, HC 7356, was proceeding east along the northern carriageway in Bath, West Coast Berbice, Guyana, South America. Motorcar PTT 7600, which was transporting the groom, was proceeding in the same direction and tried to overtake motor car HC 7356. However, at the same time, motor car HC 7356 was turning south across the road. Consequently, the groom’s car hit the ride side front bumper of the hire car resulting in the driver of the groom’s car losing control. The groom’s car then spun around several times before hitting a utility pole at the side of the road, crashing into a concrete fence, and coming to a halt on a nearby bridge.

At the time of the accident, the bride, 23-year-old Viroshni Persaud, and the groom, 23-year-old Bisham Doray, of Queens, New York, were returning from the General Registrar’s Office in Georgetown where they had just signed the legal documents to become husband and wife. The traditional Hindu wedding ceremony was only recently completed on Sunday, 21st of August, 2022.

The occupants of the mangled car were rushed to the Fort Wellington Hospital where Bisham Doray was pronounced dead on arrival. The driver of the car was reportedly a cousin of the bride. He, along with the bride were referred to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital where they were admitted. A fourth occupant of the car, Ramona Romatalli, was treated at Fort Wellington for minor injuries and sent home.

Police investigations into this incident are still ongoing.
