Guyana Flag to be Lowered in Mourning of the Late Queen Elizabeth II

The flag of Guyana will be lowered to half-mast on Monday, 19th of September, 2022. The president of Guyana made this announcement yesterday, 13th of September, 2022. President Ali decreed that Guyana’s Golden Arrowhead will be flown at half-mast in mourning of Her Royal Highness, Queen Elizabeth II.

Queen Elizabeth II died peacefully on the afternoon of Thursday, September 8, 2022 at Balmoral Castle, United Kingdom. She was Guyana’s Head of State for a short period while Guyana was still a British colony, before the colony was granted Independence in 1966 by Her Royal Highness.

President Dr Irfaan Ali has proclaimed Monday, September 19, as a national day of mourning in sympathy and solidarity with the Royal Family, the people of the United Kingdom, and other Commonwealth nations following the passing of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II.

On Monday, the long-serving Monarch would be laid to rest.

According to the proclamation signed by the President today, all authorities, boards, commissions, corporations, public agencies, Ministries and citizens are asked to fly the National Flag at half-mast.

Queen Elizabeth II, who died at the age of 96 last Thursday, reigned for 70 years.
