Amerindian Leaders Urged to Practice Financial Accountability

Amerindian Leaders have been called on to practice financial accountability in their respective villages, in light of several reports of financial irregularities at village councils. The call was made on Wednesday by Minister of Amerindian Affairs Pauline Sukhai at the opening of the annual two-day leadership training for Amerindian village councils, held under the theme “Accountability for Good Governance.”

Older, Handwritten Birth Certificates Still Valid – Registrar General

Registrar General of the Guyana Register Office (GRO), Raymond Cummings said while new certificates are becoming mainstream, older handwritten versions of those certificates could still be used. In May 2021, GRO commenced producing computer-generated birth certificates in a bid to modernize its services. Cummings told DPI Tuesday, that this, of course, is granted that the certificates are stored properly and kept in good condition.

Den Amstel Residents Expresses Gratitude to Irfaan Ali Administration

Residents of Den Amstel, West Coast Demerara (WCD), Region Three, Guyana, South America, have given the PPP/C Government high commendation for fulfilling its commitment to developing their community. Chairman of the Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC), Kenton Hilliman, said Tuesday, that the many interventions, particularly in the areas of roads, and drainage and irrigation have significantly benefitted farmers and the over 3,000 residents of the village.

Aerial Survey and Mapping of Guyana Commences

The Guyana Lands & Survey Commission (GLSC) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) are pleased to announce the commencement of aerial survey and mapping across the country using LIDAR Technologies. In the coming weeks, international expertise provided by Medici Land Governance (MLG) and its partners will conduct aerial surveying activities across Guyana using the latest – Light Detection and Ranging (LIDAR) aerial mapping imagery and technologies.

Hydromet Office Predicts Wetter than Usual Conditions for November 2022 – January 2023

The Hydrometeorological Service of the Ministry of Agriculture is forecasting wetter than usual rainfall conditions across all regions of Guyana for the months of November 2022 to January 2023 (Guyana’s secondary rainfall season). The usual secondary rainfall season will be augmented by persistent La Nina conditions during the season.  Rainfall is expected to increase considerably from mid-November and continue at least to January, 2023.

$275M Roadworks for Hague Backdam – Ali

Some $275 million will be invested to execute critical road and revetment works along the main access road in Hague Backdam, West Coast Demerara (WCD), Region Three, Guyana, South America. His Excellency Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali during a community engagement in the area on Tuesday, said that the contract for the project, has been awarded and works will commence shortly. The much-needed infrastructural works will bring relief to hundreds of residents who traverse the thoroughfare daily, as well as provide easier access to farms to transport produce.

Tourism Month Launched in Linden – Region 10

Tourism Stakeholders from across the country gathered in the mining town of Linden, on Tuesday 1st of November, 2022 for the Launch of Tourism Awareness Month which is being observed under the theme ‘All Sectors, One Tourism.’ Prime Minister Brigadier (Ret’d) Mark Phillips, while delivering the feature address noted that tourism over recent times has proven to be a major contributor to Guyana’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
