This publication has received information that a sluice door at Victoria Village, Region 4, has been broken, and the waters of the Atlantic Ocean are presently gushing into the village. Low lying areas, such as farmlands, have already been flooded, and residents are worried that the flood waters will soon climb to higher ground.
Residents of some sections of the Mabaruma township were temporarily left without electricity after a rubber tree collapsed during a period of heavy winds this morning. Luckily no one was injured.
The overflowing of the Cuyuni River yesterday drove flood waters up across several villages including Cumang and Korotokuh. Residents say the water has never been so high and worse yet, it’s still rising. One resident told this publication that their animals, including horses, cattle, and sheep, ran away into the forest last night as the flood waters rose. When they woke up, they could not find the animals.
The tornado was relatively mild and occurred in a remote, sparsely populated farming area. Therefore, there was minimal damage to property or lives. Nevertheless, citizens sent in footage of the tornado on the ground as well as photos of a house which was damaged by it.
