Within just one month, persons in Guyana and the diaspora will have easier access to services provided by the Guyana Register Office (GRO), most notably, its improved online application process.The move aligns with the organisation’s current efforts to modernise its services in a way that makes processes easier for Guyanese.
Registrar General of the Guyana Register Office (GRO), Raymond Cummings said while new certificates are becoming mainstream, older handwritten versions of those certificates could still be used. In May 2021, GRO commenced producing computer-generated birth certificates in a bid to modernize its services. Cummings told DPI Tuesday, that this, of course, is granted that the certificates are stored properly and kept in good condition.

Two men, Mark Dhuman and Andre Azimullah, has today, 8th of June, 2022, been sentenced to death for the 2017 slaying of businessman Danian Jagdeo. Jagdeo was trailed from the upper Corentyne area down to a shop at Alness Village, Corentyne, while he was plying his trade as a phone card vendor. A man using a motorcycle carrying a false number plate tracked him to the shop and robbed him at gunpoint. Danian put up a fight during which he was shot by the armed robber.
While such actions must be strongly condemned if they indeed did happen, and should be punished to the full extent of the law, the inconsistency in the first and second charges leaves a lot of unanswered questions.
